Larchmont Moves Palmer Avenue Project Ahead

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Movement on the Palmer Avenue Streetscape Project will be happening within the next 30 days if all goes according to plan, Village of Larchmont Treasurer Denis Brucciani said at Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting.

Mayor Anne H. McAndrews said she wants to get the project completed as soon as possible.

“So many of our merchants have a holiday season, and we want them to be able to get the foot traffic,” she said at Monday night’s meeting.

The goal of the project is to improve the visual aesthetics of Palmer Avenue.  The street will be extended from Depot Way through Pine Brook Drive. New lampposts, curbs and trees will also be added to the sidewalks.

The total cost of the project is estimated at about $1.6 million. Larchmont will receive $855,000 from the Department of Transportation, $684,000 in Federal funds and additional funding of $128,000, which leaves the village responsible for about $42,000. The village had sought several of those grants years ago when they first began looking into the project.

The village received more than 13 bids, which has been in the works since 2002. Specifications in the contract are being narrowed down, and during the next Board of Trustees work session on July 16, the village will hopefully determine which company will be completing the project.
