Mamaroneck Town Board Approves Patio for Plates

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – A unanimous vote by the Town Board on Wednesday night now allows Plates Restaurant, located near Memorial Park and across from the train station in Larchmont, to have an outdoor patio with tables.

“It’s really nice, and you can take advantage of the good weather and sit right next to the park,” said Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson.

Plates has offered some outdoor seating in the past few years, but wanted to make an official patio space for their patrons to enjoy.

“I think it gives the customers another way to use and enjoy the restaurant in a more casual way,” said general manager Ben Javurek.  “People will flood down this way from the train station, and people can stop and have an appetizer with a glass of wine, without feeling like they have to come inside and order a full meal.”

Now in its 8th year, Plates offers commuter deals and discounts, and Javurek pointed out that they are beginning to see some regular customers pop in once a week. Even since the patio’s unofficial opening in May, Javurek said Plates has hosted four outdoor parties where reservations have been made to use the entire patio.

“The outdoor area gives it more of a community flavor and is a nice option for patrons,” said Seligson.

Weather permitting, Javurek hopes to have the patio open over the summer and up until October. The kitchen is open until 9:30 p.m. during the week and 10 p.m. on weekends. According to Javurek, the restaurant can get packed on Friday and Saturday evenings.

“I love our clientele, and I love the people that live around here,” he said.  “It’s a great spot for commuters coming off the train and a nice alternative to downtown.”
