MAMARONECK, N.Y. The Town of Mamaroneck has seen a drastic drop in town survey participation this year prompting Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson to remind residents of the importance of their opinions.
It takes about 10 minutes to do and we are asking you to do this so we can budget in a more strategic manner, Seligson announced at Wednesday nights Town Board meeting.
The results from the survey will be used in the planning of the 2013 budget, according to Town Administrator Stephen Altieri.
The local governments are operating in a new environment where there is a concern about the services we provide compared to the taxes we pay, he said.
In 2004, the town, which has a population of about 29,000, mailed a survey to everyone in the Town of Mamaroneck, including the village of Mamaroneck and Larchmont. They received almost a third of those surveys back, which allowed them to focus on specific services and tackle resident concerns.
The last survey led to some changes in how we delivered services to residents, said Seligson in a former interview. I hope this year it will give us a good idea of what people value in the town and gives us a focus.
So far the town has received only 460 responses to the survey, which was not mailed this year. Residents can go online to the towns website to fill out a copy, or they can pick up a hard-copy at the libraries, senior center, VFW and the clerks office.
Anyone in the family can participate in the survey, including those under 18.
Just not pets, Seligson said at the meeting.
