Incumbent Ilissa Miller, 42, seeks a second term. She is CEO of iMiller Public Relations, International Marketing & Public Relations for Global Telecom and Technology Companies.
Why would you be a good representative in the coming term? As a person of my word, I have stood strong on all matters - regardless of how difficult. This includes:
- The decision not to slaughter geese and identify alternative solutions to culling the flock
- Recommending and implementing the Industrial Area Committee - a group dedicated to exploring development options of the village's most under-utilized area.
In addition, I have voted for a number of cost-savings initiatives, including the reduction in water rates by 16 percent and the abolishment of the assessor's office, which is a duplicative service now that the Rye and Mamaroneck Town assessments are at full value.
What is the biggest issue facing the village and how would you address it if elected? Second to taxes is our waterfront, the village's No. 1 asset. Maintaining its character, managing development and ensuring our ability to sustain growth is vital.
The Local Waterfront Revitalization Plan is a key document, which in essence serves as the blueprint to managing development throughout the village. This document is currently in the process of finalization to be submitted to the Department of State for review and approval.
Has the local government made any mistakes or had any oversights during your term? Yes. Certain members of the BOT simply disregard the village's own law when making decisions and appointments. To me, this is absurd - this village deserves a BOT that will work together and ensure that we set ourselves on the right, safe course for success – without feeling like we are above it all.
The village simply needs to elect Dave Finch and re-elect Leon Potok and myself.
What specifically makes you different from your opponent? I work with executives all over the world representing different walks of life, religion, ethnicities, political views and more.
In having represented 100-plus companies all over the world, the depth of my knowledge and experience with people is extensive. This has taught me to be patient, open-minded, thoughtful and careful with each recommendation and decision I make.
This is a skill that I am most proud of and one that I hold true and dear in my role as trustee.
