While New York voters won't cast a ballot until late 2018, the race for the GOP gubernatorial nomination has already begun 33 months before the election, according to lohud.com.

State Rep. Chris Gibson filed paperwork to open a fundraising account earlier this week, the first potential candidate to do so, said lohud.com said.

Previous candidates Rob Astorino and Carl Palladino have not confirmed they will be running yet but have expressed interest, reported lohud.com.
