LARCHMONT, N.Y. — A trend of tearing down older homes to make way for new construction is on a break as village officials look at what's good for Larchmont, according to the New York Times.

Old homes have not been preserved despite Larchmont's historical significance, so preservationists are trying to base their arguments on "community and character," said the New York Times.

Mayor Anne McAndrews told the New York Times the half-year halt in construction is a "pause."

Twenty-three new houses have gone up in the past 10 years, 14 due to demolitions and the subdividing of properties, the New York Times said.
