Coach Arrested for Sexual Assault

A 63-year-old gymnastics coach was arrested for fondling an 8-year-old boy. Vincent Pozzouli, who works for a vendor who leases space from the Norwalk YMCA, surrendered to police on Wednesday.  He was charged with sexual assault in the third degree and risk of injury to a minor and released on $10,000 bond.

Norwalk Police received a report that a gymnastics student had said the coach “had touched his private parts” on March 22. Police notified Connecticut’s Department of Children and Families. Sgt. Lisa Cotto, police spokesperson, said Detective Timothy Marquis conducted a forensic interview and determined Pozzouli had inappropriate contact with the child.

In 1994, an 11-year-old boy attending a gymnastics camp in Maine accused Pozzouli of similar charges, police said. Following a jury trial, he was found guilty of assault. He is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on May 21.
