“I can’t wait to get this team together in the fall and I am thrilled to be able to finish our training in the United States right here in Bridgeport,” Geno Auriemma, 2013-16 USA National Team and University of Connecticut head coach said in a statement. “I know the fans will enjoy this opportunity to see the USA Basketball Women's National Team. I’m also excited about having the opportunity to play Canada. I know they will be working just as hard as we are to prepare for the FIBA World Championship and anytime you have the chance to go up against an international opponent, it only makes you better."

Jim Tooley, USA Basketball CEO/Executive Director, said USA Basketball is excited to partner with Webster Bank Arena.

“The state of Connecticut has a strong women’s basketball fan base and we can’t think of a better place for the USA National Team to close out its domestic training schedule than in Bridgeport," he said. "Fans will be treated to quite a show as the 2014 USA Basketball Women's National Team will include some of the top talent this country has to offer.” Webster Bank Arena President Howard Saffan said Bridgeport is the perfect place for the US and Canadian teams to face off.

“It is a perfect match to have the country’s best women’s basketball players compete at Webster Bank Arena, Connecticut’s premiere sports and entertainment venue," he said. "Connecticut basketball fans have a passion for their sport unlike anyone else and to have the chance to welcome this elite team comprised of multiple gold medal winners and NCAA National Champions is extremely exciting for the local community.”
