Robert Bailey, Former Westhill Baseball Player

Robert Vincent Bailey, 55, of Bedford, Va., died May 15. Born in Stamford, he was the first centerfielder at Westhill High School.

Along with baseball, the outdoorsman was an avid fisher. The children in the neighborhood called him “Coach,” as he coached soccer for them. Bailey worked as an optician.

Bailey is survived by his parents, Carroll “Skip” Bailey and Bette Ann Weaver Bailey; his three sons, Jason Bailey and wife Jennifer, Eric Bailey and wife Carolyn and Stephen Bailey; brother Daniel Bailey and wife Johanna; sister Sandra Piter and husband Alan; former wife Linda Bailey-Torres; and three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a brother, Michael Bailey.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked for donations to be made in Bailey’s name to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
