Purchase Hires Soccer and Cross Country Coaches

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College welcomes two coaches to its athletic department for the fall semester with the recent hiring of Christian Fuller as mens’ and women’s cross country coach and James Quiroga as mens’ soccer coach.

According to the announcement by Athletic Director Ernie Palmieri, Fuller replaces Daniela Georgieva and Quiroga replaces Ricardo Lyon. Fuller, a Tuckahoe resident, has taught running and fitness across the nation and internationally as a USA Track and Field level 1 certified coach, most recently in Mammoth Lakes, California. Fuller, who is a Tuckahoe resident and was a runner at Rye Country Day School, has coached all age groups, from starting athletes to Olympic marathoners. In addition to his new coaching duties at Purchase College, he is training for another fall marathon and will be attending physical therapy school.

"I'm excited about the opportunity to coach back here in the area," said Fuller. "Coaching both men's and women’s' teams is not unusual at this level. The previous coach (Georgieva) had the returning runners prepared very well for the coming season. I'm looking forward to the experience." Quiroga, who lives in New Rochelle and is a graduate of Fordham University, joins Purchase following a stint at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, where as head coach he guided the Dolphins into playoff contention. Previously, he was an assistant at Iona College. Quiroga also coaches at FC Westchester, one of the elite youth soccer programs in the country. FC Westchester was granted academy club status by the United States Soccer Federation. He has been with the program since 1997. In that time, Quiroga has guided his team to five New York State Championships and three finals. In 2007, he guided his boys Under-17 team to the “Chelsea’s Disney National Invitational Tournament Championship.
