Hastings Coach Morris Trains Young Athletes

HASTINGS-IN-HUDSON, N.Y. – Hastings High School's girls’ assistant basketball coach Rashad Morris brings a lifetime of experience to the Yellow Jackets bench, having been a star high school and college player himself.

Morris’ success-filled background also prepared him for a career as head skills development trainer for Pro-Style Basketball Workouts.

“The best thing any athlete can do to help themselves is to master basic drills, including working on drills learned during sessions in their off time,” said Morris, who just completed his first season as a Hastings assistant under first-year head coach Joseph Keolamphu. “We work on ball handling, dribbling and proper shooting starting with age 10 players.”

Morris knows the game from personal success at every level. He is second on the all-time scoring list at his alma mater Saunders High School (Yonkers), where he played four years from 1990-1994. He went on to play college ball at Columbia Greene Community College and Utica College before enjoying a professional career for the American Basketball Association’s Jacksonville (Florida) team and the Atlantic Coast Professional Basketball League for the Port Chester franchise.

Morris and the Pro-Style program work out of the North Yonkers Boys & Girls Club with small groups and individual training and at the Yonkers YMCA with larger groups and clinics.

“Athletes progress through our program in group training or individual development work,” Morris said. “We also ask them to have family or friends film games to review errors in play so we can work on those skills that need improvement. Most importantly, athletes need to be consistent with their workouts.”
