Bank of America advised the U.S. Postal Inspector’s office that there were several fraudulent debit/credit cards being mailed to addresses in Wilton, said police.
These cards were ordered without the consent of the residents and were to be delivered by USPS on Monday, May 23, according to police.
Wilton detectives in conjunction with postal inspectors allegedly observed the occupant of a vehicle enter one of the targeted mailboxes and remove the envelopes containing the cards, police said.
The car attempted to leave the area but was stopped by Wilton detectives and taken into custody, according to police.
This investigation is connected to incidents in Florida, New York, Massachusetts, and several communities in Fairfield County, police said.
Velencia Gamble, 31, of Miami, Fla., and Evens Rosemond, 26, of Miami, Fla., were both charged with criminal attempt ID theft, sixth-degree larceny and sixth-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.
Each suspect's bond was set at $5,000 and both were released after posting bond, according to police.
Gamble and Rosemond are due in court June 2.
