Tree Brings Down Power Lines, Igniting Fire In Valley Cottage

ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- A downed tree has closed Christian Herald Road in Valley Cottage for at least the next two hours as Orange & Rockland Utilities work to replace a transformer and downed lines, police said.

The large tree, which came down around 3:45 p.m., sparked a small brush fire as the wires and transformer landed in the roadway and nearby brush. The fire has been extinguished.

The Valley Cottage Fire Department and Clarkstown Police Department are on the scene monitoring traffic.

The road is closed between Route 303 and Storms Road.
