On Friday, the Fairfax County Police Department announced that three people have been hit with a total of 65 criminal charges after finally being busted attempting to use stolen credit cards at the Apple Store in Tysons Corner.
Those charged:
- Jose Angel Santos, 20, of Hyattsville;
- Juan Jose Ruiz Leiva, 21, of Riverdale;
- Genesis Flores Caceres, 18, of Hyattsville.
Earlier this week, detectives were alerted to a possible fraud playing out at the Chain Bridge Road home, when the trio attempted to purchase several iPhone 15s models worth a total of $5,578, though they were unable to make it out of the store before detectives took them into custody.
Police say that as the three were being arrested, a woman called the department to advise that her credit cards were stolen from her car, and those were later linked to the ones being used at the Apple Store.
According to investigators, the credit cards were stolen earlier that day, and while probing the three suspects, it was determined that they had broken into several vehicles over the past few months in the parking lots of Scotts Run Nature Preserve and Difficult Run Park before similar purchases were made.
All three were arrested without incident.
Angel Santos was charged with:
- Five counts of credit card fraud;
- Three counts of conspiracy to commit credit card fraud;
- Two counts of stolen property with intent to sell;
- Two counts of wearing a mask to conceal identity;
- Two counts of destruction of property;
- Receiving stolen goods;
- Identity theft;
- Possession of burglarious tools;
- Obstruction of justice;
- Vehicle trespass;
- Petit larceny.
Ruiz Leiva was charged with:
- Eight counts of credit card theft;
- Four counts of credit card fraud;
- Two counts of conspiring to commit credit card fraud;
- Two counts of stolen property with intent to sell;
- Two counts of destruction of property;
- Possession of burglarious tools;
- Identity theft;
- Petit larceny;
- Vehicle trespass.
Flores Caceres was charged with:
- Five counts of credit card theft;
- Conspiring to commit credit card fraud;
- Possession of burglarious tools;
- Two counts of credit card fraud;
- Identity fraud;
- Stolen property with intent to sell;
- Destruction of property;
- Vehicle trespass.
All three are being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center without bond. They are scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
