Westchester's cities are starting to get built up.

According to the New York Times , cities like Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, and Yonkers are starting to play host to developers as the housing crunch hits New York City.

Mount Vernon is the home of a $48 million five-building 179-unit rental project near the Fleetwood station and this fall will see the opening of the Mount Vernon brewery at a site that used to manufacture fake Christmas trees, according to the Times.

In New Rochelle, 279 acres were rezoned to allow for taller construction, with the hopes of encouraging new development.

Since the new zoning, 13 projects, with 1,633 apartments and 115,000 square feet of commercial and retail space, have been approved for the downtown, according to the Times.

Yonkers has also made development a priority. A six-story 324-unit waterfront complex is set to open in the fall, while Larkin Plaza, a three-building, $190 million 440 apartment complex will open next year.
