MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mimi Zimmer is one of 23 students from Mamaroneck High School who performed at the New York State School Music Association Concert at the performing Arts Center at Purchase College Thursday night. The 23 students from Mamaroneck and Larchmont qualified to perform in the county-wide concert by auditioning at the New York State School Association Music Festival this past May.
"It's just exciting for these kids to have an opportunity to work with the best singers and instrumentalists in the county," said Dina Madden, music coordinator at Mamaroneck High School. "It's a pretty big deal to be accepted at the county level."
The 23 students were chosen to be in the band, orchestra and either the mixed chorus or the women's chorus. Zimmer performed with the orchestra.
"Mamaroneck has always had larger representation at these festivals," said Madden, who estimated 400 students participated in the festival from 40 schools county-wide. In addition to the county-wide concert, three students from Mamaroneck High School have been selected to perform at another concert featuring students from across New York State, which will take place in Rochester in early December.
The New York State School Music Association Concert was presented in conjunction with the Westchester County School Music Association.
