The board’s Selection Committee said it is seeking community-minded, team players who want to make a difference in the lives of the district’s 5,000 children.

Board members have the following responsibilities, it said: establishing policy, developing education priorities and goals, monitoring and evaluating the progress of those goals and priorities, approving contracts and bonds, and influencing how tax dollars are spent with the annual budget.

Board members must have strong communication skills and be able to discuss and analyze information while building consensus across multiple constituencies.

Being the parent of a child in the district – or just out of it – is a plus, the board said, but is not a requirement.

Board members – who serve three-year terms -- must be U.S. citizens, more than 18 years old, and have been residents of the district for more than a year.

They are expected to attend two Tuesday evening meetings and one Tuesday morning meeting a month, the board said.

Members should also plan to give approximately 10 hours a week overall to board activities.
