On Monday, the Board of Education announced the approval of $2,582,600 in contracts to install new playgrounds at Barnard, Webster, Trinity, Columbus and Jefferson elementary schools. Improvements are expected to include new equipment, upgraded grounds, concrete and asphalt replacement.
According to the Board, the funding for the playgrounds came from the district’s operating budget and the $106 million capital bond that was approved by voters last year. The Board also announced the appropriation of more than $200,000 for a cooler and freezer replacement at the high school as part of Phase 2 of the bond construction work.
An additional $13.5 million in contracts for the New Rochelle High School and Isaac E. Young Middle School are expected to be approved by the Board in upcoming weeks. Design work has also begun on projects scheduled for Phase 3, which is expected to commence next summer.
The Board said Phase 3 will include interior and exterior work at Albert Leonard Middle School, Columbus and Trinity. Other work is scheduled at Isaac E. Young and Jefferson. More information about the bond can be found here.
