College acceptance letters are arriving now that spring is here, and more importantly, student aid packages are on the way.

“For these students, it’s often not choosing which college they would like to attend, but which one provides the best financial aid," said Financial Aid Advisor at Mamaroneck High School Marcia Burkett.

With tuition costs on the rise, and many ollege trying to help families finance their children's education, often the funding does not cover their full needs.

This gap is filled with the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Student Aid Fund, "the single largest resources I have for families," Burkett said.

Founded in 1937 by the Mamaroneck-Larchmont Parent-Teacher Council, it helps local students afford college.

The fund relies on contributions from the community to provide need-based scholarships to Mamaroneck High School seniors.

Last year, more than 10 percent of the MHS class of 2015 received an SAF scholarship, said a release.

The amount of scholarships the Fund can provide is based solely on contributions received by April 30.

Prospective donors and those interested in finding out about the scholarships may visit the Student Aid Fund website at www.MLSAF.org
