Since 1984, New York State property tax law has provided a limited property tax exemption for veterans who have served during a designated time of war.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed a law in December that would enable school districts across New York to have the ability to authorize the same partial property tax exemptions for these veterans after public hearings and adoption of a resolution.

If adopted by May 1, the exemption will be effective for the 2015-16 school year. Based on the latest assessed valuation from the Assessor’s Office, the tax bill for the average home would increase up to approximately $50 per year.

Mamaroneck High School is at 1000 W. Boston Post Road.
