Mamaroneck Students Perform With NY Philharmonic

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Michelle Kim and Rebecca Young of the New York Philharmonic will perform with the Mamaroneck High School Choir Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in the McLain Auditorium.

The high school chamber groups will perform Mozart's “Symphony Concertante” in the String Ensemble Concert, accompanied by the two tenured New York Philharmonic members, who also helped out at last Friday's dress rehearsal. The day before, Michele Kucic, the new orchestra director, took her students to the New York Philharmonic to help prepare them for the concert.

Kim plays the violin and Young, who has been with the New York Philharmonic for 25 years, plays the viola. They both said they were glad to be taking part in the event.

Following the dress rehearsal, they conducted a master class, where a student played and they critiqued, gave suggestions and demonstrated for the rest of the class to see.

Kucic is in her first year at Mamaroneck High School and is teaching classic music. She helped put this special performance together with the help of the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation. Monday's performance will be her debut as orchestra director.
