The fruit tree was planted Saturday by students at the school’s annual science fair with the help of village Mayor Norman Rosenblum, organizers said.

The ceremony was intended to highlight the role trees play in maintaining a “clean and healthy environment,” the school said.

The mayor viewed the students’ science exhibits and gave a speech praising the school, organizers said.
