Two Assistant Principals Announced At Mamaroneck's BOE Meeting

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Shaps recommended the appointments of Karen Ruzzo as assistant principal at Central School and Emily Macias-Capellan as assistant principal at Chatsworth Avenue School on Tuesday, June 17 at the Mamaroneck Union Free School District Board of Education meeting.

They will assume the assistant principal positions effective Tuesday, July 1, when the current assistant principals (Joanne Hindley and Katie Andersen) become principals at the two respective schools.

Ruzzo comes to Mamaroneck with 20 years of experience working in education as a teacher, staff developer and administrator across several districts, including her most recent tenure as AP for the Chappaqua Central Schools.

In Chappaqua, she also serves as the building level CSE chairperson, running IEP and 504 meetings and drafting programs to support students in greatest need.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Mamaroneck Public Schools and the staff at Central School,” said Ruzzo. “I look forward to working alongside Joanne Hindley to ensure all students have an academic and socially rich elementary experience.”

Macias-Capellan is also joining Mamaroneck as a highly qualified leader in the field of education with more than 15 years of experience as an educator and supervisor.

Macias-Capellan has been the director of Instruction/Academic Dean at the DREAM Charter School in New York City since September, 2010. She has used a rigorous approach to lesson planning aligned with the Common Core standards and provided leadership in developing whole-school initiatives that promote a positive school culture.

“I am looking forward to joining the Mamaroneck schools, an already progressive district where students, teachers and families strive for educational excellence," Macias-Capellan said.
