LARCHMONT, N.Y. – Amanda Tuck, a native of Larchmont and former Marist College women’s lacrosse midfielder, is promoting the sports overseas as an assistant coach for Israel’s first U-19 women’s lacrosse team.

The team competed in the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse Rathbone’s Women’s U-19 World Cup, which was held July 23 through Aug. 1 at University of Edinburgh, Scotland.

Shortly after a high school friend recommended Tuck – a 2013 Marist graduate – to work for the youth division of Israel Lacrosse, Tuck made the trans-Atlantic move to Ashkelon, a coastal city on the Mediterranean Sea in the Southern District of Israel, in September. Prior to Tuck and the rest of the coaching staff’s arrival, Israel did not have a sustainable girls’ lacrosse program in Ashkelon and had only featured a national women’s team in higher-level tournaments such as the World Cup, in addition to hosting women’s lacrosse camps, clinics and soft-stick outreach programs.

Tuck also represents Israel as a player on the international scene, after being named one of three captains of the nation’s European Lacrosse Federation Championship team July 8. The ELF tournament will be the largest international competition in women’s lacrosse ever held on European soil. Israel will be one of 17 countries looking to capture a gold medal when the championship begins Thursday, Aug. 6 in Nymburk, Czech Republic.

“The year after graduation when I wasn’t playing lacrosse was probably one of the toughest years of my life,” Tuck said. “Being a member of a team was always my favorite feeling because I knew we all had each other’s support and we got to know each other’s personalities inside and out.”

Tuck will go from coaching in one international tournament to playing in another, as the Israeli national team begins play in the European Lacrosse Federation Championship on August 6 against Wales. Tuck will play alongside her two fellow FIL U-19 assistant coaches, Emily Brodsky and Taylor Roy, as well as FIL U-19 head coach Hannah Deoul on the squad.
