LARCHMONT, N.Y. The Larchmont Shore Club was one of dozens of teams at the pool at Coveleigh Club in Rye on Tuesday for the second day of the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships.
The club is one of the larger swim teams in the county with 130 swimmers on the roster. Larchmont sent 30 swimmers to the conference championships.
Nicole Freeman is in her third summer as assistant coach at LSC and said her swimmers turned in an excellent performance on Tuesday. Two relay teams and at least three individual swimmers qualified for Thursdays finals.
Hundreds of six- to eight-year-olds gathered for the second day of qualifying events for the championships. The finals are Thursday at 10 a.m. at Westchester Country Club in Rye.
Kerby Lewis is in her third year as head coach of LSC but has been a swimming coach for 10 years in Westchester. She said the conference championships are a great way for the younger swimmers, including those who competed on Tuesday, to gain experience.
Tuesdays event, she said, is different from last weeks Counties in one major way.
Conference championships are a little bit more intense because its only the top two swimmers in each event, Lewis said. Its just a little bit more intimate because theres fewer kids Its less hectic than the county meet.
