Larchmont Swim Club Competes In Conference Meet

LARCHMONT, N.Y. – The Larchmont Shore Club was one of dozens of teams at the pool at Coveleigh Club in Rye on Tuesday for the second day of the Westchester County Swim Conference Championships.

The club is one of the larger swim teams in the county with 130 swimmers on the roster. Larchmont sent 30 swimmers to the conference championships.

Nicole Freeman is in her third summer as assistant coach at LSC and said her swimmers turned in an excellent performance on Tuesday. Two relay teams and at least three individual swimmers qualified for Thursday’s finals.

Hundreds of six- to eight-year-olds gathered for the second day of qualifying events for the championships. The finals are Thursday at 10 a.m. at Westchester Country Club in Rye.

Kerby Lewis is in her third year as head coach of LSC but has been a swimming coach for 10 years in Westchester. She said the conference championships are a great way for the younger swimmers, including those who competed on Tuesday, to gain experience.

Tuesday’s event, she said, is different from last week’s “Counties” in one major way.

“Conference championships are a little bit more intense because it’s only the top two swimmers in each event,” Lewis said. “It’s just a little bit more intimate because there’s fewer kids…It’s less hectic than the county meet.”
