Mamaroneck Falls To Mahopac In Football Opener

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. - The Mahopac and Mamaroneck High football teams met up in Friday night's season opener, and it was Mahopac's Indians who walked off with a confidence-building, 21-7, road victory on a day in which Brewster and Carmel also picked up Week 1 wins.

The Indians stepped up, despite seeing All-Section quarterback Dan Foley sitting out with a back injury that may keep him sidelined for some time. Senior Christian Donahoe stepped in at the position, making his first varsity start at QB.

Mamaroneck led 7-0 going into the fourth, but Mahopac found a groove, and scored three times in the quarter. Joe Cavaciuti and and Chris Kocovic each rushed for a TD, and Kocovic returned an interception 50 yards for the clinching score.

Matt Catalano and Jack Guida each had two touchdowns as Brewster coasted to a 45-20 win over Hen Hud.

Joe Rodriguez completed 8-of-13 passes for 128 yards, including two touchdown passes, Carmel defeated White Plains 39-24.

Lakeland fell to Fox Lane 25-7 in its opener
