ROCKLAND COUNTY, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck High School's baseball team outlasted Class AA defending champion Roy C. Ketcham on Saturday to win its first Section 1 championship since 2009.

Defending Class A champion Rye High was not so lucky as its baseball team fell, 4-3, to Byram Hills on Saturday. Both Section 1 finals were played at Provident Bank Park in Pomona, N.Y.

The victories by Byram Hills and Mamaroneck earn them spots in the State baseball tournament. State quarterfinals playoffs begin on Friday.

With Mamaroneck's starting pitcher Jason Kreinces throwing a shutout through five innings, top-seeded Ketcham found itself trailing the Tigers, 8-0. But the Indians waged a six-run rally in the sixth, prompting the Tigers to summon the help of two relief pitchers -- Bill Flatow and Kumar Nambiar. With one out and bases loaded, Nambiar threw two strikeouts to stop Ketcham's sixth-inning rally. Nambiar notched the save with a 1-2-3 seventh.

Andy Karlan and Peter Matt both hit triples for the Tigers,. Nambiar, Emerson Genovese, Andy Gross, Anthony Pecora and Andrew Sommer each knocked in at least one run for Mamaroneck. Fans welcomed the Tigers home during a fire truck escort on Saturday night.

The Class AA title resided in Dutchess County for four years. Arlington won back-to-back titles in 2012-13. Ketcham won in 2011 and last spring before advancing to the State's Final Four.

In Saturday's Class A final, Rye High School jumped out to a  2-0 lead but faced strong pitching from junior Bobcat starter Frankie Vesuvio.

Vesuvio struck out eight Garnets and allowed only five hits and one earned run.

Senior Tim DeGraw was Rye's starting pitcher.
