MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck's varsity baseball team is State regional champion after its 5-0 win on Saturday over Horseheads at John Jay High School.

Lefthanded starter Kumar Nambiar notched the shutout win for the Tigers. Mamaroneck advances to the Class AA semifinals on Saturday June 13 at Union Endicott High School near Binghamton. The win brought Mamaroneck's record to 22-4.

The Tigers' State playoff game begins at 10 a.m. Saturday against Connetquot, which is 24-4.

On Friday, the Tigers' edged out Section 9 champion Valley Central, 4-3, in Saugerties to advance in the Class AA State regional semifinal against Horseheads, which was Section 4 champion.
