Mamaroneck Boys Win First Section 1 Lacrosse Title

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Scott Greenberg and Peter Conley each scored four times, and Justin Brill was outstanding in goal Wednesday as the Mamaroneck boys lacrosse team won the school's first Section 1 Class A title with a 9-8 upset victory over Mahopac.

The Tigers, seeded No. 10 in the tournament with a 9-10 record, held the high-powered Mahopac offense to two second-half goals after the teams were tied 6-6 at the half.

Mamaroneck will play the winner of Section 9 Minisink Valley and Niskayuna of Section 2 in the New York State Public High School Athletic Association regional final at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Clarkstown South High School.

Brill, substituting for star goalie Jake Danehy, made 21 saves, 12 in the second half.

Mamaroneck's Justin Csenge scored one goal, which made the score 8-7 with just over six minutes remaining. That turned out to be the difference as each team scored once more in the game.

The Tigers trailed 5-2 after one quarter before scoring four goals to forge a 6-6 tie at halftime.
