Mamaroneck Coach Carver Talks Road to Postseason

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Mamaroneck Tigers are the No. 9 seed in Class AA and will face their rivals, the New Rochelle Huguenots, on Friday in the opening round of the playoffs. Tigers coach Tyrone Carver Jr. shared some thoughts about his team’s path to the playoffs and what they will need to do to advance in the postseason.

Question: How has your team improved since the beginning of the season?

Answer: I think just being more familiar with each other and I also believe that the game and the schedules that we’ve played helped us to prepare for the finish that we had in the regular season.

What are your team’s biggest strengths?

We just play hard. In my opinion we have one of the biggest creators down the stretch of games in (Matt) Mezansky. I think just our will, our mental toughness, is definitely a strength of ours.

What do you think will be the keys to success in the postseason?

Continue to do what we’ve been doing, but obviously the playoffs bring a whole different intensity and mentality. But seeing who our opponents are defensively, our defense and being able to respect the basketball will be keys down the stretch.
