Mamaroneck Field Hockey Players Get Academic Kudos

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Since 2004, the Mamaroneck varsity field hockey has been a dominant force in Section 1. The Tigers have won six Section 1 Class A championships and were the 2004 New York State titlists. Even with his team’s outstanding success, Mamaroneck coach John Savage is equally as proud of his players’ academic achievements. Six seniors were selected as academic all-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association of America. The recipients are Jessica Corbin, Scarlett Fugazy, Jessica Gardiner, Nina Kumar, Alicia Meglio and Daniella Torres. Fugazy (Denison), Gardiner (Colgate) and Kumar (Williams) will also play field hockey in college, as will senior Molly Cohen (Union). “Not only are they great athletes, they are great people,” Savage said.
