MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Sportime Harbor Island's USTA Men's 3.0 tennis team will be heading to Albany on Aug. 23 to compete for the regional title.
The team, comprising 12 men from Mamaroneck, Larchmont, Scarsdale and White Plains, began competing this year.
Coach Josh Bill said, "We got the guys together, they were all new. Last year we weren't very good, so we got a new team. They all met each other for the first time, and they all gelled together. We started off the season okay. We got better, and before you know it we made the playoffs."
The team won the local division, beating eight other local clubs. They, then went to sectional playoffs last week and won. They will be playing against teams from Albany, Buffalo, and New Jersey in hopes to make it to the national tournament in Arizona.
"We became a great team and have great camaraderie," Bill said.
Team members are David Antenucci, Volker Kuhn, Jerome Estanpes, Laurent Cordier, Chris Marks, Martin Kowalewski, Alex Sze, Taro Sukunuro, John Lincoln, Roger Sirling, Carl Spana and Joshua Friedman.
