Senior Wrestler Advances To States
At the Section I Wrestling Championships this past weekend, seven wrestlers qualified, four were All-Section place finishers and one Tiger won the championship, advancing to States.
Mamaroneck's ninth place team finish was its best in the high school's history at Sectional playoffs.
The seven qualifiers and their weight classes were: Crew Fullerton (106 pounds), Charlie Saez (113), Bobby Bizzard (120), Alex Sanchez (126), Max Valera (145), Roger Ransom (170) and Youssif Hemida (220).
Hemida, a senior, remains the state's top seed and advanced to the New York State Championships on Feb. 27-28 in Albany. Mamaroneck has never won a State title in wrestling, but Hemida is considered the favorite going into the championship.
