MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- Mamaroneck High School's 200 yard medley relay team qualified for the State Championships this week by winning the Section 1 title in 1:52.32.
And MHS junior Nicole Parry was a double winner in individual swim events, taking first in both the 50 yard freestyle (24.3 seconds) and 100 yard freestyle (52.8 seconds).
"The Lady Tigers set the pool on fire,'' said their coach, Cathleen Ferguson.
Ferguson said Parry's feat made her the the first Mamaroneck swimmer to win two sprinting events in the same year in over 30 years.
Not content with those two titles, the Lady Tigers went back to work.
Swimming in the championship final on Thursday Nov. 6, the 200 yard medley relay team, consisting of Tessa Garces (backstroke), Theresa Pace (breaststroke), Alexa Parry (butterfly), and Nicole Parry (freestyle) shaved a second and a half from their qualifying swim Monday night.
Thursday's winning relay time of 1:52.32 was fast enough to qualify the foursome to swim at the New York State Championships at Ithaca College, Nov. 20-22.
That means Nicole Parry will compete in three State Championship events in Ithaca next week.
Meanwhile, two members of Mamaroneck's cross country team qualified for Saturday's State Championships at SUNY Canton.
Junior Lauren Chapey placed 29th in the Class A race at States with a time of 19:09.
Sophomore Will Young placed 49th in the Class A race at States with a time of 16:55.
