Mamaroneck To Play In Touch Football Tournament

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — Eight Westchester high school football teams will participate Saturday in the fifth annual Grip It and Rip It Passing Camp at New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Conn.

Iona Prep, Mamaroneck, Pleasantville, Rye, Scarsdale, Sleepy Hollow, Stepinac and White Plains will all take part in the 7-on-7 touch football tournament. A total of 33 teams from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey will play in this year’s tournament, up from 21 last year.

The teams will arrive between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. to register and pick up schedules. Coaches will meet in the New Canaan High School wrestling room at 8 a.m. Round robin games will commence at 8:30 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. The playoffs will start at 1 p.m.

Each team will play a minimum of five games, and every team will make the playoffs with seeding based on record in pool play. Ties will be broken among teams with the same record based on points scored and points against.

Helmets are not required for the tournament but mouth guards are recommended. The games will take place on both natural and artificial grass.

A Connecticut team has won the tournament every year since it began in 2008.
