UTICA, N.Y. -- Andrew Benkwitt opened the 2012 Utica College football season the same way he concluded 2011 -- by throwing touchdowns.
The Mamaroneck graduate and current senior, making his 31st consecutive start, completed 20 of 36 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-7 victory against St. Lawrence.
Benkwitt, who also rushed for 53 yards and a touchdown, owns the school record with 60 touchdown passes.
He opened the scoring with a touchdown pass to Matt Dunn in the first quarter. Benkwitt added a 1-yard scoring run in the second quarter and later in the quarter threw another touchdown pass to Dunn. Benkwitt closed out his day in the third quarter, hitting James Murphy for a score.
