Mamaroneck's Duran Wins Five Wrestling Matches

The beautiful Memorial Day weekend weather enticed many people to the beaches and other outdoor activities. Members of the Westchester Wrestling Club did not get to experience this. Instead, the wrestlers traveled to Albany and spent two days inside a hot, sticky field house competing in the sport they love -- wrestling.

The wrestlers from Westchester Wrestling Club, under the guidance of founder/coach Joe Boxer, went 4-2 as a team, finishing in third place at the Tournament for Lukemia at the Albany Academy Fieldhouse. WWC defeated Titan Black of Albany, 49-26, in the third-place match.

“I am very happy with the way the guys wrestled all weekend,” Boxer said. “The progress they showed over the past two months has been tremendous. On the second day, the guys stepped it up and technically, wrestled excellently. “I’m also proud of them because they, along with their parents, spent their Memorial Day weekend inside, and they wrestled their hearts out.”

Yorktown varsity wrestler Jimmy Kaishan, who wrestled in the 122-pound weight class, went 6-0 and was named the team’s most outstanding wrestler. Kaishan posted an 11-3 major decision over a New Hampshire wrestler who placed in the New England wrestling championships, according to Boxer.

Tom Murray (174 pounds), Kaison’s high-school teammate, finished 5-1, as did Dion Duran (163 pounds) of Mamaroneck.

Port Chester’s Justin Karas (148 pounds) went 4-2 and Chris Dowdy (163 pounds), a New Jersey resident, had a 4-0 record.
