Poppas, Boder Dive to County Championships

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. – Elena Poppas of the Larchmont Yacht Club and Theo Boder of the Orienta Beach Club in Mamaroneck each took first place in the Westchester County Diving Championships for boys and girls 17-and-under Tuesday at Lake Isle Country Club.

Poppas edged second-place finisher Grace Connors of Bronxville 192.35 to 189.25 and Rye Golf Club’s Coco Darelius placed third among the 19 girls’ divers. Carly Feinman of Chappaqua took fourth (179.60) and Casandra Schwartz placed of Pocantico (Tarrytown) fifth with 177.75.

Boder, who scored 201.75 to win the boys’ diving, was just four points better than Evan Moretti of Scarsdale Town Pool who scored 197.55 with Aaron Wald of Willowbrook placing third (193.15). Matthew Rohrer of Katonah (176.30) and Max Kesten (149.45) of Briarcliff were fourth and fifth.

The host Lake Isle Country Club team’s top finisher were Dava Fortunato, who placed ninth in the girls’ diving and Brendan McLoughlin, who was seventh for the boys. Krista Gresia (11th), Elise Weir (16th), Erika Moffa (19th) competed for the Lake Isle girls’ team and Billy Quintano (10th) and Christopher Lazzaro (25th) dove for the boys.

The 86th Annual Westchester County Swimming and Diving Championships continue with the swimming competitions at the Playland Pool in Rye August 1-4.
