Rye Neck Softball's Spedafino Closing in on 400 Wins

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Rye Neck has moved Wednesday within one step of presenting veteran softball coach Joan Spedafino with a milestone win.

Jessica Calvini tossed a two-hitter and struck out seven as Rye Neck defeated visiting Harrison, 2-1 in a Section 1 softball game for Spedafino’s 399th career win.

Spedafino will go for No. 400 on Friday at Horace Greeley. Once Spedafino hits 400, she will join Pearl River’s Mike Carlacci and Nanuet’s Tony Toronto as the active Section 1 coaches with 400-plus wins.

Rye Neck, now 11-0, scored twice in the first inning on a Calvini run-scoring single and bases-loaded walk to Nickole Morgan.

Jordan Valentzas singled in Alijah Webb in the seventh inning for Harrison.
