MAMARONECK, N.Y. – The Mamaroneck varsity boys’ lacrosse team had a 2012 season it will never forget.

The Tigers entered the Section 1 Class A Lacrosse Championship seeded 10th and when it was over, walked away with the title, making this one of the top sports stories in 2012 for Mamaroneck and Larchmont.

Scott Greenberg and Peter Conley scored four goals apiece, leading Mamaroneck to a 9-8 victory over top-seeded Mahopac in the championship game. It was Mamaroneck’s first Section 1 Class A title.

The Rye Neck football team came into the 2012 season looking to bounce back from a two-win 2011 season. What the Panthers accomplished made program history.

The Panthers finished the regular season undefeated and unscored upon. They beat archrival Dobbs Ferry in a semifinal to reach the Section 1 Class C championship game for the first time.

The Mamaroneck varsity football team had an excellent 2012 season, as the Tigers went 6-1 during the regular season and qualified for the Section 1 Class AA Football Championships.

The Tigers also defeated rival Port Chester in their annual matchup to retain possession of the Athletic Director’s Trophy, as captain Robby Nigro ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns.

The Mamaroneck girls’ 4x800 relay team of Shari and Leonie Rauls, Anima Banks and Katie DeVore won the Westchester County title in May. The quartet covered the 3200 meters in a time of 9:29, its best time of the season.
