New Rochelle native and Iona Prep senior Paul Verni will make the trip to Tampa, Fla., to train. Harrison High School junior Liliane Lindsay and Mamaroneck High School sophomore Ellie Sawyer will train in Oakland, Calif. Association alumnus Yasmine Hemida of Mamaroneck, now a freshman rower at Syracuse University, also earned an invite.

The top 22 to 24 junior male and female rowers in the country earn invites to the camp. Invitations are based on last year’s Junior National and Worlds Development Teams along with a few new rowers.

The goal for the rowers selected is to compete at the Junior World Rowing Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, in 2013 or in Hamburg, Germany, in 2014.

Each of the four rowers has competed on the national stage. Hemida and Lindsay became champions at the USRowing Club Nationals and won the Thomas G. Gannon Cup at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Verni made the Junior National Team’s High Performance Team last year and represented the United States at the CanAmMex competition, which features rowers from Canada, the United States and Mexico, and at Club Nationals.

Sawyer made the A-finals at the Youth Nationals last year.

“No doubt our athletes will find rowing and training with the best in the country a challenging and exhilarating way to begin their own rigorous winter training program with PCRA,” Pelham Junior Head Coach Guy Monseair said.  “We’re extremely proud of the unflagging discipline and determination that it took for them to receive this invitation.”
