Westlake Football Team Advances To State Semis

SLEEPY HOLLOW, N.Y. - The Westlake High School football team crept one step closer to playing in a state championship game Saturday, beating Section 9's Marlboro Central, 14-5, in a New York State Class B quarterfinal game played at Sleepy Hollow High School.

Marlboro led 3-0 at halftime, but Westlake's Ryan Duffy opened the second half with a 93-yard kickoff return, awakening his team.

Westlake, which improved to 9-2 under former Nyack High School head coach John Castellano, is set to face Section 2 champ Schuylerville at Dietz Stadium in Kingston Saturday at 3 p.m. Castellano came to Westlake after serving as head varsity football coach at Poughkeepsie High School.

The winner heads to the Carrier Dome for a state championship game.
