White Plains Stops Mamaroneck Second-Half Rally

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – White Plains held Mamaroneck to one basket in the final quarter and went on to a 47-30 victory in a girl’s basketball game on Monday.

Sofia Roman led White Plains with 15 points. She also added five steals and four assists. Kim Hanlon finished with 12 points, Alyssa Ghilardi had nine points and eight rebounds, including six on the offensive glass.

White Plains, now 9-3 on the season, held Mamaroneck scoreless for the first five minutes and 30 seconds, while scoring 10 points, making the score 40-28. Roman assisted on baskets by Ghilardi and Brittany Fields, who scored nine points.

White Plains survived a third quarter in which it scored five points on one basket and three free throws. The hoop, a spinning lay-up by Kim Hanlon, came with 1:08 remaining in the quarter. Mamaroneck had closed a 12-point deficit to four points – 32-28 – on a Zoe Schmidt offensive follow with 1:25 in the quarter.

Jessica DeGina and Catherine Van Eyck each had eight points for Mamaroneck.
