I don't understand from this article. Is that $5k including the missing scrap? This all cries of petty politics if you ask me. The board tries to change the position from elected to appointed, loose the vote, and now all the sudden start making an big deal about an issue that has been going on for years? Issues that predate Mr O'Connor's tenure. Sounds to me like the board is taking retribution on Mr. O'Connor for a decision the tax payers voted on. Petty politics wont win any votes from me. Work with Mr. O'Connor, not against him. you're all on the same team, act like it. View Comment
It's not in Ossining, BUT..... A number of AMD band students will be performing today at 2pm in the Rivertowns Honor Band. Concert is at 2pm in Sleepy hollow H.S. auditorium. View Comment
Thank you for noting the tip on the original price. People don't usually think about the fact that a discount on a meal quite often results in a discount on the waiters pay. View Comment
I don't know what the purpose of the map was supposed to be. I did not make it. As for it having nothing to do with recent events, i think a gun is a gun and a life is a life. If you think the second amendment gives you the right to personal ownership of a fire arm, then whatever laws have to do with fire arms are related. But that is beside the point. My point was that what police organizations f did in response to this was a lot more dangerous than the act they seem to be against. If you want to hold people accountable, hold everyone accountable. So will they also be holding police accountable for actions taken against reporters when police started posting names and addresses of journal news employees? Because say what you will about the map, you still have to know where someone lives first to see if they have a gun. And if a convict finds out where a cop lives, they would rightly assume the cop had a gun. I think that's the part people seem to be missing. It's not like the map allowed you to put in a name and have an address pop up. You have to click the address to get a name. There are much easier ways to get someones address on the internet. Having police agencies post a picture of a house with a name and address to a bunch of pissed off people is a lot more dangerous. So please keep the same standards for both sides.
Engelesq, i hadn't thought of it that way before, that makes more sense then the other way round View Comment
So how is highway superintendent any different then say town supervisor, which is currently held by a politician as well? Should we give up our right to vote there as well and let some politicians just pick one?
If there is a more qualified person than the man in the position, let them run against him in the next election. Heck, the board can even endorse one candidate over the other, But don't use our tax money to shove an agend at the town. It is this type of board, insinuating that the people can't make an educated decision in an election, that is keeping politics as usual in our town, state and federal governments. View Comment
they wanted to give their employees 18% pay cuts and lower benefit coverage, the employees went on strike, and instead of negotiating the closed their doors. View Comment
May I also recommend you tip your server a little extra. This is a very large discount at some of these locations, and people who tip as a percentage of their check will be tipping less for the same amount of work and knowledge on the staffs part. In turn your waiter will be making less money because of this. Don't penalize the wait staff. View Comment
I don't care who won this debate. Because in November the American people are the ones who will be losing. no matter which one of these two wins, the only people who will truly benefit are wealthy elite, and corporations. It is time we have some real third parties invited to the debates. the lengths that the two dominant parties go to to suppress third parties is disgusting, and not beneficial to our nation. More of this Ossining "Used to be great" nonsense. What time in Mrs Marrero's life is she referring too? Was it when we had failing schools? Drug dealers and prostitutes freely walking up and down spring street? Shootings and stabbings in town? business leaving left and right?
Ossining is a Great town NOW. We have one of the best school systems in the county (i would say nation, but the mayor would have little to do with this) You can walk around town at night without looking over your shoulder, we have new businesses coming back to main street, we have a rec center that is highly used, with programs all year long to keep the whole town busy, and a community that is diverse, beautiful, and growing.
It's not a local law that allows the village to override the tax cap. That provision is written into the law itself. So are you saying you wouldn't go over the tax cap as mayor? if that is the case, what exactly would you be cutting from our budget? what examples of waste do you actually see, that we can get rid of.
As for accountability, you have an issue that you have to talk to multiple departments to have an issue resolved, and your solution is to have a department to call, who will transfer you to another department. So instead of solving the issue of not knowing who to call, you have formalized the process you don't like. Is this the type of leadership we are to expect? Giving lip service to issues, only to have more bureaucracy to jump through when we have problems to solve?
You may not want to be a politician, but you sure sound like one to me. View Comment
