Peekskill's water supply is not under threat from fracking. The closest shale deposits to Peekskill are nearly 80 miles away and i don't believe those in western Orange county hols sufficient NG to make drilling profitable.
Closing two 40 year old Nuclear reactors makes good sense. How difficult is it to keep 40 year old cars on the road? How much more difficult is to to keep 40yo reactors open when the radioactivity makes every component age at exponentially greater rates. View Comment
It seems the owners of the gas stations in Peekskill rip off the motorists of this town. Always the first to put their prices up and last to drop them when prices come down.
Go down the road to the Shell in Garrison at the intersection of 9 and 9D (i think) and gas is 23 cents per gallon cheaper. Yes it is in Putnam County but the very short drive is worthwhile. View Comment
What an awful comment to make! Good to see he had the good sense to resign over this.
"The democrats are ALWAYS quick to criticize but are slow to act or in fact never act." I don't believe any Democrat has called for the permanent disfigurement of women, anywhere.
Francis, you need to rethink your silly remarks.

Entergy tells us "We're right for New York." I laugh! You are not even doing basic maintenance at this place and this fine proves it.

Nan Hayworth has been great for the people of Westchester. Donald Trump, Martha Stewart and all of the other billionaires in the county must love her!
Yet again, Ms.Hayworth proves she just votes along with the Republican herd. This is a simple right of privacy and she fails us ...again. She has yet to vote in favor of a law that makes my middle class life better.
I won't miss you after November Nan. View Comment
Republican fool appointing his buddy to a position of power to help those who paid for the Republican fool's election to get some money back from the county.
Glad they stopped this. View Comment
"The real losers will be Westchester Tax Payers if Mr. Jenkins and the Democratic majority gets their way."
-Please, state the facts if you are going to make this sort of statement. View Comment
The working members of the lower middle class would like to thank you for nothing Mary. Yet again proving you are out of touch with the needs of the people of Peekskill. Your ridiculous agenda is no longer supportable by anyone living in a condominium or townhouse in this city.
Enjoy what is left of your time as Mayor. View Comment
I would sign your tax pledge if you will sign mine saying you will compensate everyone for their loses when these reactors spill radiation into our yards. A mistake was made in the 1960's allowing these plants so close to so many people. Obviously, with hindsight we can see this.
Yes we need the electricity but that can be made up easily from interstate in the short term and from new power plants long term. If NY loses 20% of its energy production from IP market forces will crate other players to provide what is needed, that is how capitalism works.

Our son was in the NICU with both of these nurses and we had the chance to get to know them a little. I am certain they had the best intentions for this child. What Mr. Kennedy did is shameful.
I hope he feels the full weight of the law! Nurses do not to be kicked. View Comment
The real story...
"The mayor called me to give me the news and I was literally jumping with joy when I heard that commuters in northern Westchester will spend much more time sitting in congestion that could have been avoided so our narrow minded busy body group can have great views of dying trees as we head to luncheon." Deana Nelkin, a Pleasantville resident and founding member of the citizens group of busy bodies, was ecstatic to hear that the project was cancelled. “I’m just thrilled with everybody that was involved in stopping progress and human advancement.”
“I think it’s a perfect example of citizens coming together to degrade the quality of life of other Westchester residents for petty gain and creating a group solution to resolve an issue that doesn't exist,” said Smith, who attended a meeting Sunday afternoon in Pleasantville held by the citizens' group of busy bodies. “And their resolutions were perfectly reasonable for us, screw everyone else who travels on these roads.” View Comment
I could not agree with you more Bob.
Pre-WW2 6% of the same demographic had a bachelors degree. Post WW2 it rose to 20%, by 1965 25%, by 1974 29% and it has flattened out since.
To obtain a bachelors degree kids coming out of High School need to be able to read, write and do math. We are jumping the gun if we think rushing kids through college is beneficial when nearly 50% dont complete high school or are unable to attend college. View Comment
"Government has grown 20% since 2008." You really need to state where you get your 'facts' on this. if they seem correct in your mind, leave them there and only present real numbers. View Comment
"Where were they then when these bills killed our economic growth?" Can you please provide evidence that this happened? Spouting diatribe is not evidence. Please provide facts. View Comment
Anyone who has seen Josh Fox's movie Gasland is alarmed that this process is going to occur in our midst. Horrifying is the only way to describe this process. View Comment
