Hazardous Weather Alert, Flood Advisory For Mamaroneck

MAMARONECK, N.Y. -- The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook and a coastal flood advisory through 2 p.m., Wednesday.

Specifically, the flood advisory is for southern Westchester along the western Long Island Sound. Tides are expected to be 2.5 to 3 feet above normal, and breaking waves of 4 to 8 feet will enhance flooding.

The advisory noted that there could be "widespread minor to localized moderate coastal flooding at high tide late this morning into early this afternoon."

A coastal flood advisory indicates that onshore winds and tides will combine to generate flooding along low areas along the shore.

While most locations will experience only minor flooding, there could be moderate flooding on some of the most vulnerable shore roads and/or basements, the National Weather Service said. The majority of roads should be passable with only isolated closures.

No hazardous weather is expected at this time that would meet the criteria to increase National Weather Service outlook to a warning.
