A storm system overspreading the area has resulted in light snow and snow squalls in much of the Hudson Valley late Saturday afternoon.

Snow first arrived in areas farther west, including Rockland, at around 3 p.m.

Other than some squalls, the snow should remain light and result in a coating to a half inch of accumulation in spots, the National Weather Service said in a Special Weather Statement released at 3:43 p.m. Saturday.

Motorists should be aware that the snow could result in slippery driving conditions.

Areas farther north, including Dutchess, should see less snow, or possibly just snow showers.

The light snow will likely taper off during the evening and wrap up by 9 p.m.

The overnight low will be in the mid-20s.

It will clear up Sunday with sunny skies and a high around 40.

After another sunny day on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, there is a chance of freezing rain overnight into Tuesday.
