Severe Thunderstorms to Follow Extreme Heat

Mamaroneck residents did their best to keep cool on another day the National Weather Service issued hazardous weather warnings.

After school, Alexandra, 10 and her two sisters Wendy, 9, and Stephanie, 8, went to Carvel. With ice cream cones in hand, the three Mamaroneck Avenue Elementary school students found some shade and kicked around a soccer ball while their mom and dad relaxed by the car. Alexandra’s family looks forward to the cooler weather this weekend, though they plan on drinking plenty of liquids and watching television inside until then. Although Thursday hit a high of 94 degrees, much of the afternoon was overcast. The National Weather Service has forecasted severe thunderstorms for Thursday night between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. The storms could include large hail, damaging winds and frequent lightning. They’ll also lower the temperature to around 71 degrees. The temperatures will remain lower Friday, when 83 degrees is predicted. The forecast calls for 72 degrees Saturday, then back up to 80 degrees Sunday.

There is a chance Friday afternoon and evening of thunderstorms, with a low of 63 degrees. Thunderstorms are likely Saturday and Sunday with lows of 72 and 64 degrees respectively.
