Sweeets, a candy store in the former Sweet & Social spot on Palmer Avenue in Larchmont, officially opened June 20 and Owner Tracy Doyle says she couldn't be happier with the space.

"We'd been looking at locations in lower Westchester for a while," she said. "Larchmont was our target all along."

The New Rochelle resident, whose stepson works alongside her most days (her other son is at camp), said the colorful store is her first full-time entry into the business world after years working in the fashion business.

Doyle had been working remotely on parties and events with family member Dana Schulman, who owns Sweeets in New Preston, Conn. Schulman, the longtime owner of D.K. Schulman stationers, opened her candy shop as a pop up six years ago and has had such phenomonal success, it's been a stand alone ever since.

Doyle said she's watched the Connecticut store's growth and feels confident she can replicate that in Westchester. Already she's booked numerous parties for both adults and kids and sent out a bunch of camp packages.

The mission of her store is to service everyone from children to grandparents, basically ages three and up. "Candy is a happy thing," she said, and her store reflects that with a sunny look bursting with pink walls, vibrant yellow and orange splashes, and shelves full of rainbow-hued candy.

There are lots of options to choose from: everything from gummies to licorice to chocolate, along with a host of European items. "We have candy from around the world," she said, including items that are gluten-free, sugar-free and vegan.

Aside from its wide assortment, Doyle said the store prides itself on its packaging. "That's where my fashion background comes in handy," she said.

She's also big on getting involved with the community and has plans for a date night co-sponsored with the Chamber of Commerce and a Find Waldo event with The Voracious Reader. "We're eager to partner with the neighborhood with whatever is going on," said Doyle.

There is also a rewards card so that those who buy a lot (already, she said she's seeing a lot of familiar faces) can get a free item after ten punches on their card. Tasting is encouraged.

Among the popular items: an almond brittle from California-based Paso that she's reordered twice, and European fine chocolate bars like John Kelly and Vosges.

She is also toying with staying open on Sundays. Right now hours are 11 a.m. to  7 p.m. Monday through Saturday though the store will be open this Sunday, July 12 as a way to gauge traffic.

Sweeets is at 1935A Palmer Avenue, (914) 630-4400.
