Westchester Set For Annual Jewish Music, Arts Festival VALHALLA, N.Y. -- It's going to be a day filled with Jewish music. The 43rd Annual Westchester Jewish Music and Arts Festival will be held on Sunday, Aug. 20 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Kensico Dam Plaza in Valhalla. The festival is presented by The Westchester Jewish Council and The Westchester Klezmer Program in cooperation with Westchester County Parks. Civil War Regiment Remembered At African American Cemetery In Rye RYE, N.Y. -- Twenty people gathered at the African American Cemetery in Rye to honor a Connecticut regiment that fought in the Civil War.The 29th Connecticut Volunteer Regiment, an all-black troop, has six people buried at the cemetery, located within in the Greenwood Union Cemetery.  The regiment participated in several key battles during the Civil War in Virginia and then returned home after the war.  Most of the volunteers were freed or escaped slaves. Black soldiers were paid less than white soldiers so the regiment declined to be paid rather than receive less.
